Back in California

Hawaii was pretty fun and relaxing, although it didn't do much for my training. All those pina coladas and mai tais and going to have to be worked off in the coming weeks. I did manage to squeeze in two short runs and went to the gym twice. The running in Hawaii is a little different with the humidity and heat. I didn't make it all that far. This holiday season has really been eating into my training. I need to pick up the pace. I guess the real gnarly training starts on January 2, 2007.

Being back at work after vacation isn't all its cracked up to be. I am going to stop by the gym tonight and go for a run tomorrow morning. I plan on taking my bike up north with me and maybe get in some miles in Stockton. We are planning a trip to Napa so I think a run through the valley is in order. Point being I need to step it up...

Off to Hawai'i

I finally got up early and went for a four mile run this morning. It was pretty dark out for the first couple miles (and freezing cold). I ran by the bay and then cut over to the ocean and ran by the beach for the last mile or so. The waves are still pretty good.

I am off to Hawaii tomorrow morning at 9:30. I think I can already taste the pina coladas... I plan on getting in a few runs, some surf and maybe stop by the gym a few times if my hotel has one. Rough life...I know.

Aloha...

Weekend update

I got in a little exercise considering I had a busy weekend. I surfed early on Saturday morning. The waves were 6 - 9 feet and pretty good. It has been way too long since I got some decent waves. I took an eight mile run on Sunday. The run felt good. I never got tired and could have kept going if I had to. Off to the gym tonight.

Two days 'til Hawaii...

Throwing water bottles

It is hard to motivate as it gets colder and the days get shorter. I have tried to wake up early the past few days and run before work. The sun isn't up and I can see my breath inside my house. I have gone back to sleep everyday instead. I need to get more focused...

I went to the gym on Tuesday and did some strength training. Back to the gym tonight for my weekely spinning class. The spinning classes are getting easier and easier. The first one I did I almost quit half way through it was so hard. Everytime the instructor told me to "add more tension" I wanted to throw my water bottle at her. I am glad I no longer have any urges to throw things at the instructors.

I am looking forward to getting in some good traininig this weekend. A long bike ride and either a surf or a swim on Saturday (the waves are going to be really good). Sunday I hope to get in a long run and some laps or more waves.

SC Half Marathon 2:02:00

I finished the Southern California Half Marathon in around 2:02:00. I missed my time by two minutes. It was hard to guage my exact time because of all the people there. It took a few minutes to make it to the start line and actually have some room to run. I felt good throughout the whole race though. My legs were not sore the next day which is nother sign that I am improving. I need to find a way to take some time off of my running though...

Oh well, on to another long week of training. I am focusing on my swimming and running this week. We'll have to see how much time I can put in before Hawaii.
